IVORY COAST
CUSTOMS REGULATIONS
Note that the BESC (Electronic Cargo Tracking Note) has to be provided for each single sea shipment coming to the Ivory Coast.
HOUSEHOLD GOODS AND PERSONAL EFFECTS
A foreigner may import used import household goods and personal effects into Ivory Coast duty free if he or she has diplomatic status or works for a legally registered foreign company or business cooperation.
Documents required for foreigner:
- Original OBL, packing list in French and passport copy.
- Freight invoice.
- Residency, work permit or letter from the employer explaining the client is starting a new contract in Ivory Coast.
- Cargo tracking note (check www.OIC.CI for details).
- Original valued inventory in Franc CFA & in French dated and signed by the shipper
- Original airplane boarding pass.
- Invoice for new items.
- Attestation of change of residence from local French consulate or embassy.
- Statement of affiliation document mentioning the two parents name and date of birth. (Etat de filiation document pour importation)
Diplomats will need to additionally provide:
- Duty exemption certificate issued by his embassy / organization and the Ivory Foreign Affairs Ministry.
- Certificate of function established by the employer.
- Copy of the diplomatic ID.
- Copy of the diplomatic passport (with entry visas).
Returning nationals also need to provide and import duty will be payable:
- Affiliation of the customer (for establishment of a taxpayer count).
- Photocopy of the resident ‘s permit and passport
- Certificate of function established by the employer
- Certificate of move signed by the town hall or the prefecture.
PROHIBITED AND RESTRICTED GOODS
Generally pornography, guns, fireworks, narcotics, subversive or offensive literature
MOTOR VEHICLES (AUTOS AND MOTORBIKES)
Vehicles over 5 years old cannot be imported.
Only foreign diplomat may import vehicle duty free. For all other foreigners and returning citizen they can still import vehicles by paying taxes of approx. 50% of CIF value.
Diplomats required duty free permit plus proof of prior ownership.
Non-diplomats required Bill of Sale, rated OBL, change of residence certificate, passport.
Clearance for vehicles is a complicated and time consuming process. Demurrage is inevitable.
