HOUSEHOLD GOODS AND PERSONAL EFFECTS

Personal effects are not subject to duties and taxes in Senegal except from items of less than 6 months old. In this case, we will need the purchasing invoices to determine the value of duties and taxes for customs clearance.

For customs formalities, the presence of client is not required. But, for others reasons, if customs find shipment suspicious, client presence will be required for customs visit at quay or for a physical visit.

For expatriates we will need: packing list in French, copy of valid passport, original B/L or AWB, detailed valued (in CFS) inventory dated, and signed by the shipper. Invoice for items less than 6 months old.

For returning citizen we will also need Certificate of moving and detailed valued inventory list.

For Diplomats we will need duty free permit provided by the embassy.

PROHIBITED AND RESTRICTED GOODS

Never mix personal effects with commercial goods.

Weapons and ammunition are subject to the approval of the territorial administration. Drugs, pornography, defamatory, obscene publications and books/films on wars or terrorist events cannot be imported.

Alcohol: only an amount of max 15 bottles can be declared/imported.

MOTOR VEHICLES (AUTOS AND MOTORBIKES)

Diplomatic shipments must obtain a duty free permit prior to shipment arrival.

For non-diplomats duty is applicable at rate of approximately 50-80% of the CIF value. Only cars under 8 years old can be imported. Bill of sale and registration/title documents will be required.
