CUSTOMS REGULATIONS
HOUSEHOLD GOODS AND PERSONAL EFFECTS
All personal effects and household goods must be imported within 2 months after the returning residents time of arrival, and 3 months after the date of the work or resident permit has been granted to all other shippers.
All shippers are required to be physically present at customs clearance. No Imported goods may be sold, leased or otherwise disposed of for 24 months from their date of entry, unless customs duties are paid.
Duties are required to be paid on:
- Office equipment
- Computers
- Cash registers
- Telex and Fax Machines
Diplomatic shipments require a diplomatic card or letter of identity from the embassy or organization. All documents must be completed and signed by diplomat and then submitted to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and then customs for final clearance. Diplomatic shipments MUST be imported within 6 months after the time of the diplomats arrival.
Documents required for shippers who are returning after 2 years:
- Immigrants declaration
- Inventory of the goods
- Residence permit and work permit
- Passport copy including page showing visa for Mozambique
- Letter from employer or organization confirming employment contract or termination
- Bill of lading or AWB
- For returning residents who have been working or studying- termination of employment and completion of studies is required
Documents required for shippers who are return after less than 2 years:
- Immigrants declaration
- Inventory with values in USD
- Invoice/Receipts of goods being imported
- Bill of Lading or AWB
PROHIBITED AND RESTRICTED GOODS
The following items are prohibited:
- Drugs and Narcotics
- Pornographic materials
- Offensive Weapons
- Forged Documents
- Counterfeit Money
- Citrus Fruits, seeds and deciduous plants (only if you have an import license from the agricultural authorities)
MOTOR VEHICLES (AUTOS AND MOTORBIKES)
Each member of the family over the age of 18 may import a motor vehicle free of duty and tax, provided the vehicle was in physical existence and fully paid for by the importer before his/her entry to Mozambique.
Motor vehicles may NOT be leased in any way within 24 months of customs clearance and without prior approval of the Controller of Customs.
Documents required for shippers returning after more then 2 years:
- Invoice with value in USD
- Immigrants Declaration
- Passport
- Residence/Work Permit
- Proof of ownership and vehicle registration documents from origin
