CUSTOMS REGULATIONS
HOUSEHOLD GOODS AND PERSONAL EFFECTS
A foreigner may import household goods and personal effects into Morocco duty free under the following conditions:
- He or she has diplomatic status
- He or she is coming to work or live in Morocco
- He or she is a returning resident
Diplomatic Shipment
If customer is working for an embassy or an international organism with diplomatic status, they are allowed to import their goods under diplomatic franchise provided by Ministry of Foreign Affairs and approved by General customs office and embassy / employer organism.
Copy of passport is required for owner of goods.
Foreign citizen coming to work or live in Morocco
Duty free entry if goods have been in owner’s possession and used for more than 6 months. Documents required are original change of residence certificate issued by local authority from country of departure/Inventory in French or Arabic Resident or work permit or letter from the employer stating that the client is starting a new contract/Copy of passport with stamp of entry in Morocco.
Returning resident:
Duty free entry if goods have been in owner’s possession and used for more than 6 months. Documents required are original change of residence certificate issued by local authority from country of departure/Inventory in French or Arabic/Work contract or original attestation from Moroccan company/Copy of passport with stamp of entry in Morocco. Moroccan Consulate must stamp same documents in place of departure for Moroccan people. CCR (change of residence certificate) has to be on city hall’s paper head, signed and stamped. CCR can be done in most consulates/embassies in Morocco. Check with yours before departure.
Important Notes:
- Please be advised that customer should be present during customs inspection and during container extract from the port except for the diplomatic shipment.
- Foreigners are no more allowed to pay taxes for missing docs, so all docs must be complete, otherwise the shipment will be blocked at the port.
- No shipment shall be dispatched without our green light.
PROHIBITED AND RESTRICTED GOODS
Goods prohibited from entering Morocco include pornographic material, subversive literature against the Kingdom of Morocco. Firearms and ammunition, only smooth barreled hunting weapons are permitted. They are retained by customs until the firearm and hunting permit is obtained. For this reason, they must be easily identifiable and placed near the doors of the container, Unlawful drugs. Alcohol and spirits are forbidden except for the diplomatic corps. Maximum of fifteen bottles only can be declared.
MOTOR VEHICLES (AUTOS AND MOTORBIKES)
Vehicles older than 5 years cannot be imported permanently in Morocco. For non -diplomats they can only be admitted in the country for a period of 6 months maximum and need to be re-exported thereafter, regular car import will be subject to approx. 50 % taxes and duties, the car has to be less than 5 years old.
Diplomatic vehicles older than 5 years can be imported, but will have to be shipped out when the client leaves the country. Documents required are the original registration card, original Bill of Lading, copy of passport, OBL must state the engine number and chassis number and weight of the vehicle.
In order to avoid any unnecessary delays and charges for demurrage and storage due to lengthy customs procedures for vehicles, we need a copy of the above documentation at least 1 month before the shipment is sent.
